Events & Campaigns

The City Centre hosts a variety of activities throughout the year including Farmers' and Craft Markets on the first Friday of every month in Dudley Street, with craft stalls and fresh farm produce. 

In Dudley Street and Queen Square activities take place at key times of the year including St George’s Day - this year activities are on Saturday 21st April in Queen Square; the Summer holidays and of course our ‘It’s Christmas’ celebrations and Light Switch On - put 21st November 2012 in your calendar for this great event. 

The annual Steam & Vintage Rally will be held in West Park over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd June, with a spectacular parade of the vehicles from the city centre to the park starting at 12 noon on the Saturday.

The city will honour the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Celebrations with a tribute in West Park on Monday 4th June.  One of a nationwide network of Jubilee Beacons will be lit, whilst female fronted rock band 'She Will Rock You' will set the park alight. Full details available here.

The fun continues in West Park on Tuesday 5th June with the Jamaican Independence Day celebrations.

Wolverhampton is on the Olympic Torch Route, with the honoured torch bearers running through the city on the afternoon of Saturday 30th June.  Entertainment and activites will line the route - watch out for 100 dancing Elvises! Full details here.

The City Show will take over West Park again this year on 7th and 8th July.  This annual event attracts thousands of visitors who come along for amazing shows in the arena including the Sealed Knott, monster trucks, sheepdog trials, funfair and many varied stalls - something for everyone.

The Carver Wolverhampton City Marathon takes place each September raising money for charity, starting in West Park and going partly through the city centre.  This year the event will take place on Sunday 2nd September - last year's full marathon had 312 finishers.

May 25th to 27th 2012 sees Light House Media Centre host Deaffest the UK's only Deaf-led film and television festival, which celebrates the talents of Deaf filmmakers and media artists from all over the world.

Flip Festival is also organised by Light House Media Centre in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton.  The Festival is an eclectic mix of all things animation from industry led panels to feature film screenings and from international showcases and retrospectives of short films to spotlights on animation studios and takes place in November 2012.

The 2012 Grand Slam of Darts will be the sixth staging of the darts tournament, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation.  The event will take place from 10-18th November 2011 at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall.  Live television coverage of the tournament will be on Sky Sports HD Channel.

Sports fans can enjoy football at Molineux Stadium, home of Wolverhampton Wanderers, close to the city centre.  Wolverhampton Racecourse is also located just to the north of the city centre.  This was one of the first all-weather horse racing courses in the UK and was Britain's first floodlit one.  There is also greyhound racing and Speedway close by at Monmore Green.
