Getting the feel good factor with Sister Act
09.02.2012
On a cold Wednesday night and after a mad dash to Shrewsbury to pick up my friend I was really looking forward to Sister Act at the Grand Theatre. I love my musicals but couldn't really remember much of the film so it was with an open mind I settled down to be entertained.
And boy were we entertained. Sister Act: A Divine Musical Comedy is full of upifting songs and comedy set in the disco era which centres on Deloris Van Cartier's time in the convent helping the nuns to find their true voices.
Star of the show was Cynthia Erivo as Deloris who belted out number after number of disco, funk and Motown and the whole production was full of hilarity especially the performance of Denise Black (of Coronation Street fame) as Mother Superior and with lots of tounge in cheek humour in song, dance and acting from the nuns, the villans and the good hearted cop.
The costumes were amazing (I won't spoil the finale but think glitter and I mean GLITTER!!!!) and the American accents pretty convincing, all in all I would thoroughly recommend the show which is on until Saturday 18th February. A great girls night out but also suitable for families with young teens.
The Grand even serves 'divine' cocktails during the interval to get us all into the spirit!
