10th Anniversary of City Status
On the 31st of January 2001 Wolverhampton was conferred City status by HM Queen Elizabeth II, one of the three millennium cities bestowed with this honour.
In recognition of the tenth anniversary, the Mayor of Wolverhampton Bert Turner will welcome people to share an anniversary cake and their memories of the last decade. Town Crier, Percy Simmonds, who proclaimed Wolverhampton a City in 2001, will be on hand for the celebrations.

The event, which has been jointly organised by WVone, the Council and the Mander Centre, will take place on Friday 8th July in the Mander Centre from 12.15pm onwards.
Visitors will have the chance to take part in a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ prize draw, before being handed a slice to eat! There will be a £50 gift voucher as prize for the winner on the competition.
